Chinchillas and Carefresh Pet Bedding is it safe?

I just switched from using kiln dried pine shavings for bedding for my chinchillas to Carefresh bedding which is made from pulp. When I put the bedding in they both grabbed some and nibbled on it. I couldn't tell if they actually ingested it or if they were just curious about it. They did this for just a few minutes and then went back to doing other things. My question is...should I keep the new bedding and is it safe? Or should I go back to the shavings? I'm hoping to get answers from other chinchilla owners or other pet owners who have used the Carefresh bedding. Thanks for your help!
