What does John McCain's POW experience have to do with becoming the US President?

McCain right now is a POW of his own party and campaign advisors. He is being tortured every day, being told to say a lot of things contrary to his original beliefs and what he has said before. The problem is, I think this time he is indeed being successfully brainwashed by his captors.
