Would you be in favor of cl-based affirmative action? That is, should United States society give people....?
Absolutely not. College admission and company hiring would both be best-served by respectively accepting and hiring based on merit. Affirmative action should be perceived as an insult by those people it targets to help because it implicitly states that those people are not smart enough, competent enough, competitive enough--or are deficient in some other way--to get in to a decent college or job. America has always stood by the principle that hard work and perseverance will lead to a better life. Affirmative action waters that down to "try just hard enough and Big Brother will do the rest for you" (i.e. you don't have to be as skilled/smart/talented/rich as this other guy... we'll help you where you are deficient). Perhaps 50 years ago when college acceptance really was racially or aristocratically biased my answer to this question would be different. But skill, smarts, diligence, and perseverance should rule the day... not a mandate to have X number of people from this race or cl in a certain group just because you "value" diversity. "Valuing diversity" is just the new, less conspicuous, politically correct term for "affirmative action". In a fair and just world, those who work hard and apply themselves should be rewarded. Those that do not, should not be rewarded.
